It seems like each year there is some new advancement made and the technology keeps improving day by day. Currently the biggest evolution is the Blue ray technology. But before talking about that, it is better to learn more about the Blue ray disk and Blue ray drives. The Blue ray disk is very much different from a normal DVD and consists of a ferromagnetic material that is sealed with a plastic coating. There are various types of optical disk drives in the market but the most recent ones to have captured the consumer electronic market are the Blue ray drives.

A single-layer Blue ray disk can store around 25GB and a dual-layer disk can store 50GB. This storage space is way higher than a normal DVD. Blue ray drives are needed to read and write data on to a Blue ray disk.

Blue ray drives work in a very different way than other disks that we all know. The Blue ray drives actually have a laser inside that helps the reading and writing of data more understandable for the computer. During the whole disk reading process, a laser beam is projected on the disk. This reflects a light. The light can change depending on the magneto-optical Kerr effect.

The BDA, also known as the Blue ray Disk Association recommends that almost all Blue ray drives should be capable of reading the traditional type of DVDs and CDs. This is known as backward compatibility.

Although many consumers still use the standard DVDs and CDs to watch movies and listen to songs, the Blue ray disk format has gained more popularity over time. Blue ray disks come with more storage space and higher quality than a normal DVD, making it more useful for people who want to get a cinematic experience right at their home.

In the early days where the Blue ray technology was at its initial stage, a few manufacturers who released products that had Blue ray DVD players and Blue ray drives which could play only DVDs and not CDs. But today, the new advancements have changed the Blue ray drives making it possible for the backward compatibility.

Having a high storage space compared to other disks is one of the biggest advantages the Blue ray disk has. Due to the increase of sales, manufacturers of desktop computers and laptops have incorporated Blue ray drives into them. Many computer systems are shipped with the Blue ray drives installed in them. The Sony Playstation-3 also has a Blue ray drive thats built-in.

For manufacturers of traditional DVDs and CDs, the Blue ray disk has come up as a major competitor, enveloping most of its customers. After all who would want a DVD with low storage space when a Blue ray disk can be purchased with higher storage space and more features?

Bluray technology is the newest to hit the stands. After the entire buzz about being able to store movies and what not on DVDs and CDs, we have now the newest way of storing all those movies and songs we are interested in. They may look a lot like a DVD or CD, but bluray discs have an ability to store a lot more. Capable of holding up to 50 GB of memory on one disc, this disc has become the new in-thing for all those techno buffs. Movies can be stored on it without compromising their quality too. Because bluray discs can hold large amounts of data, it can store it in high-definition formats, giving upto five times as much clarity as the standard formats supported by DVDs.

A blue ray disc player is obviously what’s needed to read a bluray disc. Blue ray disc players come with an optical head specially designed to meet the requirements of a bluray disc. As the laser used to read and write a bluray disc is of a different wavelength from the ones used to read DVDs and CDs, it is necessary to get a blue ray disc player for this. It’s not difficult to get a blue ray disc player at a store, and you can shop for them online as well. The prices of these players are a bit higher than those of standard players, but this could be because most of the blue ray disc players available are also compatible to read the normal DVDs and CDs available in the market currently. This means you can get a blue ray disc player to read your CDS and DVDs as well as bluray discs. There are models of blue ray disc players available that are backward compatible to DVDs and CDs as well. This backward compatibility means that the blue ray disc player can be used to read bluray discs, DVDs and CDs. If a blue ray disc player is not made so that it is compatible to the other formats as well, it would probably not sell as much in the current market, as bluray technology is just being introduced to the larger audience.
The blue ray disc player is currently being produced by several companies, large and small. These companies include the well known Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung and LG. As we saw with floppy disks, CDs and DVDs, the blue ray disc player will be likely to be used side by side with other types of storage mediums, replacing them over time. Don’t hurry and buy a blue ray disc player just yet if you feel you can’t afford it. Thanks to the speed of development in the electronics industry, prices will definitely reduce as the blue ray disc player becomes firmly established.

The entertainment industry in the latest century has given the world some of the biggest evolutions. One of the biggest evolutions was the arrival of DVDs. It had a huge impact on the total entertainment experience. People did not have to go to the cinema hall to watch the movie they liked. They could experience it all at the comfort of their homes mainly because with DVDs came the DVD player. These high-tech equipments had unmatched picture quality with high audio and video resolution.

After the DVD was engulfed by the world, next came the Blue ray disk with more features. The Blu ray disk has taken the optical disc technology to a higher level as it is mainly used for high-definition data and video storage. Another dissimilarity between a DVD and a Blu ray disk is that a DVD uses a red laser, whereas the Blu ray disk uses a blue laser. The name Blu ray was a result of the laser color that was used in the disk.

The Blu ray disk is famously known as a BD or a blue-ray disc. This has been developed by the Blu ray disk association; a group consisting of some of the highly known names in the consumer electronic trade. The most popular names include Sony, Hitachi, Philips, Samsung, Panasonic, Hewlett Packard (HP), etc. The format in a Blu ray disk enables recording, rewriting and the playback of high definition video.

Compared to a DVD, the biggest advantage a Blu ray disk has is the high storage capacity. A single-layer Blu ray disk has a storage capacity of 25GB and the dual-layer Blu ray disk can store up to 50GB. A Blue ray disk has advanced audio and video codes, enabling a person to have the ultimate high-definition video viewing experience.

Unlike the traditional DVD, a Blu ray disk has storage capacity around five times higher than the normal one. These disks can store high-definition video as well as standard-definition video. The standard can store around 9 hours whereas the high-definition video can store up to 23 hours. Another advantage of the Blu ray disk is that the blue-violet laser in it has a shorter wavelength, hence enabling it to focus on a disc area with greater precision. The size of the disk is the same as a CD, but the storage capacity is much higher.

The major disadvantage is that sometimes standard DVD players are unable to recognize the format in these disks. Luckily this problem is being rectified by the use of backward compatible players. Such players have the ability of reading Blu ray disks, CDs as well as DVDs.

The latest phenomenon to take over the digital electronic world by force is the all new blu ray disc. The high storage facilities and quality audio, video features offer the consumers what they have been anticipating for quite a long time.

The blu ray disc can only be read using a blu ray disc player. Some of the giants in the consumer electronic market such as Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc were able to manufacture the blu ray disc player, making the whole new blu ray technology experience a reality.

This blu ray disc reader has a special laser very different to the red laser used for standard DVDs. The blu ray disc reader has a special blue color laser that has been specially designed to read blu ray discs. This blue laser in the blu ray disc reader is the main reason to call it the blu ray disc.

At first it was Sony that explored the blu ray technology. Along them came Pioneer. Toshiba was actually on the look out for producing a different type of digital product but later abandoned it for the production of blu ray discs and players. Today you will notice that many of the leading names in the industry have come up with at least one type of blu ray disc player.

With so many companies manufacturing different types of blu ray discs and players, competition has become fierce, forcing them to charge competitive prices on their customers.

The advanced features and attributes brought forward by the blu ray disc and blu ray disc player has proved a direct hit to the traditional DVD market. Since blu ray discs can only be played on a blu ray disc player, majority of people are rushing to buy a branded blu ray disc player manufactured by the giants in the industry.

Storage space compared to the DVD is much higher in a blu ray disc making it a much sought after product in recent time. Large proportions of data can be stored, making it easier to carry around unlike the DVD which can store only around 5GB to 10GB.

The blu ray disc is expected to create incredible advancements and storms in the digital world and the blu ray disc reader is a valued entity. Everyones looking for it. And they shall have it.

The digital world, no matter how advanced it is, is still faced with a few problems and inefficiencies in the products that are being offered. These are quite visible when trying to transport huge amounts of data from one place to another. The standard DVD which was seen as a high quality product is now seen as something not worth watching by many movie lovers.

With the introduction of the blu ray disc, studies confirm a major loss of sales for the standard DVD market. Although the blue ray disc looks a lot similar to the traditional DVD, it has more features and capabilities than the latter. Unlike the DVD which was read by a red laser, the blu ray disc is read by a blue laser projected on the disc and hence the name blu ray disc was given.

One of the biggest advantages a blu ray disc has over its contender, the standard DVD is its enormous storage capacity. The standard DVD we all know has a storage capacity of around 5GB to 10GB, whereas the all new blu ray disc carries around 25GB to 50GB. The single layer disc comes with the 25GB capacity and the dual layer disc with a 50GB storage space.

Well if you only use DVDs for movies, games and music you might find that information a bit useless. Even though the increased storage capabilities means the ability to store about 10 movies, as many games or hundreds of audio tracks in a single blu ray disc. How impressive is that.

But all you movie lovers will have better news. The increased high definition effects for both audio and video in the blu ray disc will provide the viewer or listener with an experience of something out of this world. Home theatre has never been better than this. Movie theatres might have to be a bit careful.

Since the blu ray disc is seen in many game devices such as the Playstation-3, Xbox and Nintendo, individuals who have a passion for playing games can benefit a lot out of this whole new experience.

Consumer producers of blu ray discs would also find a lot of advanced features that will suit the business needs like advanced security and anti piracy features. Regional codes will also mean that market segmentation and specialization would be much easier than before.

People are embracing this new technology rather gleefully around the world and why shouldnt they. Blu ray discs should be available for everyone any time soon. Keep your fingers crossed till then.
