Uterine cancer is also known as endometrial cancer and the cancer of the uterus. Scholars and research workers the world over are striving to determine the origins of this malady and the methods of nipping it in the bud. This is not infectious even though the reason or reasons for some people being stricken with it and others not, are unknown. It is interesting to note that findings are available to show that certain factors are more prevalent in women who contract this disease than in others who do not get it. It is ironic that some women who contract this disease have no such risk factors whereas still others, who have these factors, do not get the disease.

The uterus, commonly known as womb, is the muscular organ in a woman where a fetus grows when she is pregnant. It is a vital organ in a females reproductive system. Although there are other types of cancer in the uterus, the most common one is that grows in the lining of the uterus called uterine cancer or endometrial cancer. This type of cancer is more common in women who are 50 years of age and are in postmenopausal stage in their lives.

There are several symptoms connected with this ailment. Abnormal bleeding or discharge from the uterus is the most common symptom connected with uterine cancer. Any bleeding or discharge that occurs after menopause is considered abnormal. Pain in passing urine is another sign. Pelvic pain and pain during intercourse are another two symptoms of possible uterine cancer.

It is advisable for women who experience these painful conditions to consult a doctor without any delay. But it always may be possible that these symptoms are false alarms as they may be caused by less serious conditions. Only a doctor can confirm it. Nevertheless, this malady is capable of making insidious growth. In that case, the first sign may be pelvic pain or pressure.

Women with case histories of diabetes, hypertension, and erratic periods, and those who have family histories of ovarian or breast cancer and those who have been barren are linked with contracting uterine cancer. It is also considered to be hormone-related, often to estrogen. Whatever is said and done, since prevention is better than cure, it is most advisable to consult a doctor the moment you suspect that you may be the next victim of uterine cancer.

Being diagnosed with cancer is one of the scariest things that can happen to a person. While fear can [subdueparalyse] ones will to survive, one should remember that with early detection and treatment, the cancer can be defeated.

There are several types of cancer, and even in a smaller subset such as skin cancer theres more than one type.

Skin cancer can be either a carcinoma or a melanoma. As the name suggests, the melanoma is a form of skin cancer that begins in the melanocytes. It is more likely than the carcinomas to spread to other parts of the body, but fortunately is the rarest form of skin cancer. The most common forms of skin cancer are basal and squamous cell carcinomas.

How can basal and squamous cells and melanocytes be identified? The epidermis (top layer of the skin) is composed of three types of cells:
Squamous cells these are thin, flat cells that make up the topmost layer.
Basal cells Found under the squamous cells, these are round.
Melanocytes These produce melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour.

Risk factors for skin cancer include having fair skin, chronic inflammations or ulcers, scars or burns, having had radiation therapy and being exposed to a lot of either artificial (as in tanning booths) or natural UV rays. Keep in mind that just because one of the risk factors applies to you, it doesnt mean that you will certainly get skin cancer. However, [it is still possible to contractthere is a chance of forming] a skin cancer in the absence of any visible risk factors.

One of the best ways of preventing skin cancer is by minimizing damage to the skin through overexposure to sunlight, so wearing sunscreen is recommended. Also, the quicker a cancer is caught and treated, the higher the chances of success. Skin cancer looks different depending on which type it is, so if anything suspicious is spotted, its a good idea to see a physician and get a professional opinion.

For those diagnosed with skin cancer, there are several organizations out there that provide support and information. An excellent source of information is the National Cancer Institute, which has a comprehensive and clear website, and reliable professionals available to assist by telephone, email, post or chat.

The female reproductive system is composed of many different parts. Of these many organs, one of the most important in reproduction is the ovary, the organ that produces the egg which later can get fertilized. The ovary therefore plays an important role in hormone secretion in females, and hence in a lot of the processes that take place in a womans body. Being an organ with lots of activity, all cells in the ovary are constantly growing, maturing and dying. Ovarian cancer is when there is a tumor in the ovary.

Being diagnosed with ovarian cancer is a distressing experience for any woman. As no one knows exactly why the cancer forms in the first place there is not much that can be done as preventive methods. It is because of this that being aware of any changes that occur in your body is very important. As the ovary is involved with the menstrual cycle, being alert to any changes in the cycle would be a good way of identifying the disease early on. Going to a doctor at the earliest signs of something happening out of the ordinary would be a good idea to find out what the causes for these changes are. Sometimes the doctor may recommend surgically removing the affected ovary as that would stop the cancer from spreading to other parts of the body. Ovarian cancer need not be the end of the line for women these days. There are a wide array of drugs prescribed by doctors which provide the needed hormones for the body to function as it always did. And since there are two ovaries present in the female body, it does not mean that removing one ovary because of ovarian cancer would mean there is no chance for childbirth later in life. Being alert and identifying the disease in its early stages would mean that ovarian cancer could be effectively cured.

It is not easy to find out you have ovarian cancer, or any other kind of cancer. It takes a lot of courage to go through an experience like that, and so it is important to always surround yourself with positive people. Make sure the treatment that you take is something you are comfortable with and something recommended by your doctor. And be positive you can help yourself through this disease. You are stronger than you know!

Lungs are one of the biggest organs in a human body. Separated into two sections, the left and right lungs, they perform Themost important task for life breaking down the air we breathe to give every human the needed oxygen for survival. So what is lung cancer? The cells in each lung, and the whole body for that matter, go through the usual life cycle of living and dying. As the old cells complete their life cycles new one are formed to take their place. Lung cancer occurs when new cells keep forming while the old cells are still healthy and functioning. These cells would not have room to be present, and they also have no function as they would not be able to specialize into the different types of cells because there is no reason for them to. Hence extra cells in the lungs stay together as a growth, more commonly known as tumors. Tumors can be of two kinds benign or malignant. While benign tumors are present in the body as a mass but cause no harm as they do not keep dividing nor do they spread, malignant tumors are what can cause harm in a persons body as these cells do not stop dividing and producing new cells. These malignant tumors can cause harm to the person, and could cause more harm by spreading throughout the body through the lymph system to other parts of the body.

Tobacco use is said to be one of the biggest reasons for lung cancer. Unfortunately being a smoker yourself is not the only means of being affected by tobacco smoke. Being exposed to secondhand smoking can have the same result on your body. So if you live with someone who smokes a lot, work in an area where there are lots of smokers around, or are in any way in the presence of smoke from a cigarette, you are at the same risk that the person who is smoking is in. Tobacco smoke has carcinogens, chemicals that cause cells to start dividing irregularly and out of tune, thereby producing an excess number of cells in a particular part of the body. Lawsuits against many popular cigarette companies have become a common thing in the past few years, with many smokers saying they did not know about the ill effects of tobacco earlier and are now suffering from one kind of disease or the other, due to smoking. It is now the law that every cigarette packet should have a warning in bold letters mentioning how tobacco is harmful to health.

Treatment for lung cancer can vary according to how far the tumor has spread, or how much of an area is affected. Doctors would prescribe one or a combination of the following few as treatment methods, depending on each individual. Surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy are some of the most common treatments for lung cancer. But always remember, the fastest cure to lung cancer, or any other disease, is a positive frame of mind!

Cancer is the growth of too many cells in a certain part of the body, and depending on which part of the body it occurs, it is given different names. The colon, better known as the large intestine, is a part of the body that assists in digestion. It is the last organ involved in the digestive tract. Colon cancer is a malignancy that occurs in the inner lining of the colon or the rectum, the end part of the colon. Colon cancer has become a common ailment in todays world.

All cells in a human body undergo the process of life and death. Cancer occurs when this cell growth becomes uncontrolled and when the bodys natural defense mechanism, the immune system, cannot control it. This uncontrolled growth then produces a collection of cells known as a tumor. Tumors can be either benign or malignant. Benign tumors do not spread or invade any other part of the body. Malignant tumors on the other hand keep dividing uncontrollable and can invade other parts of the body and destroy the healthy cells in the body.

There are many known risk factors that may increase the chance of colon cancer occurring in a human. Those over the age of 40 are said to be at a higher risk of developing colon cancer, and colon cancer has rarely been diagnosed in those under forty. Having a family history of colon cancer can also increase the chances of developing the disease. Other factors like having benign tumors, a bad diet and other ailments that can pose risks are also said to be risk factors.

There are many symptoms that are linked with the presence of colon cancer but having one or more of them does not necessarily mean colon cancer is present. Symptoms like bleeding from the rectum should never be ignored, but they do not mean you have colon cancer. Other symptoms to keep an eye out for include changes in bowel habits and pain in the abdomen or rectum region. Again having these symptoms does not mean you have colon cancer but they should be taken seriously and a doctor has to be consulted to find out what may be causing these irregularities.

Advances in science and the field of medicine mean that cure rates for this type of cancer are quite high.Using a combination of treatment methods like surgery, radiation and chemotherapy will definitely mean a better prognosis for the patient.

The female uterus is connected to the vagina through an opening called the cervix. In laymens terms it is the connecting region between the womb and the birth canal. Cancer that forms in this cervix is generally found in the mid region of this connecting area, better known as the transformation zone. This transformation zone is the meddle region of a cervix.

Cervical cancer can be of two main types the most common kind of cervical cancer is called squamous cell carcinoma. This occurs when the squamous cells that line the cervix close to the vagina become cancerous and start producing too many cells too rapidly. The other type, which is less common, is called adenocarcinoma, which is formed by the mucus forming gland cells in the inner part of the cervix. This type of cancer has for some reason become common in women born in the last twenty to thirty years.

There are many risk factors that may increase the chance of a person developing cervical cancer. But it has to be mentioned that having these risk factors does not mean you will definitely have cervical cancer. Being infected by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is said to increase your chances of getting cervical cancer greatly. HPV is a kind of virus that is most commonly related to warts that form in different regions of the body. It is spread through skin-to-skin contact and so can be spread by intercourse, oral or anal sex. The most common exam to find if you have been infected or not is called the Pap test. But it is important to know that having this virus does not mean you have cervical cancer.Smoking is considered another big risk factor in women. Researchers believe that carcinogens from tobacco smoke may alter the DNA of cervix cells, causing them to become cancerous. Other risk factors include the wrong diet, use of oral contraceptives in some case and even being affected by AIDS. Again, it is important to remember that having these risk factors does not necessarily mean you will have cervical cancer, but it is always better to do a few tests.

As with most other cancers, treatment can be done through surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy. It is most common to be treated using a mixture of two of these methods, and it is always advisable to listen to what the doctor has to say about these treatments.

Cancer begins in cells and affects the functioning of the whole body, overtime. The basic nature of cancer is portrayed through abnormal duplication of cells which happens uncontrollably. Eventually, there will be a mass of cells forming in the body known as tumors. There are two types of tumors but only malignant ones are harmful. The other type is called benign and is not cancerous.

The Harmful cancer cells usually divide rapidly entering other nearby tissue and organs which jeopardizes the normal functioning of the body. The cancerous cells can also swim through the bloodstream or the lymphatic system to give rise to tumors in other places.

Cancers are usually named after the place in which it starts. Therefore, names of types of cancers as lung cancer, bone cancer, breast cancer and so on. If a lung cancer affects the brain, it is still called a metastatic lung cancer because it is caused by cancerous cells in the lungs.

Statistics show breast cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer types. Breast cancers are usually diagnosed through annual mammograms or through identified lumps in the breasts or through discharges from the nipples. While treatment for breast cancer does not always end up in surgery, in extreme cases patients are advised against settling for other options such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormonal therapy.

Colon cancer has different symptoms such as weight loss, bowel habit changes, discomfort and pain in abdomen, as well as fatigue. While the causes of colon cancers are not clear cut, it is known, that genetic mutations that are passed down generations can act a risk factor.

Similarly, risk factors for lung cancer too can run in genes However the deadliest cause of lung cancer for most sufferers is tobacco smoking, marijuana, exposure to radon and recurring inflammation of the lungs due to conditions such as pneumonia and tuberculosis. The common treatments for lung cancer are none other than chemotherapy, radiation therapy and sometimes surgery.

prostate cancer treatments differ from stage to stage. Patients in the first stage of prostate cancer are often given external radiation as well as radical prostatectomy. For stage II, radiation therapies and hormonal therapies may work out. Patients suffering from stage three and four of prostate cancer may want to settle in for radiation therapy and chemotherapy and sometimes, hormone therapy. While risk factors for prostate cancer cannot be pinned down easily, many scientists agree that it may owe to dietary habits, family history, age and even ones race.

The body is made up of different types of cells that in turn are grouped into different tissues and organs. Over two hundred kinds of body cells exist in the body. Cancer is a disease caused by the changing of these normal cells in an uncontrolled way, thus forming a lump, which, if not treated medically, will spread into adjacent normal cells or apply pressure on other body structures. Cancer research is concerned with making out the roots of cancer and finding out how to diagnose, treat, cure and prevent this mortal illness.

There are various non-governmental organizations and government-controlled bodies taking part in very extensive cancer research studies all over the world today. Billions of dollars are spent annually on such work by these institutions.. Generally, such studies range from epidemiology, molecular bioscience to the conducting of clinical tests of various therapy procedures. However, since 1990s, the focus of these research has been centered on immunotherapy and gene therapy.

Some non-governmental organizations such as American Institute for Cancer Research (AIR) and Cancer Research UK have been funding thousands of scientists, doctors, and other research students in cancer research. Their research work covers almost all aspects of cancer-related subjects through extensive programs of world-class research in hospitals, universities and other institutes all over the world.

More and more promising researchers, students, and scientists are joining in cancer research work in order to fight this deadly disease that afflicts millions of patients globally.. The aspiring students of cancer research may well remember that they could find very insightful and educative research articles and source material from the World Wide Web. If, at the same time, they are in search of various fellowships and research grants to conduct cancer research studies for the benefit of the vast numbers of cancer patients all over the globe, they will find the Internet a valuable source of information regarding institutions that award such grants and assistance.

Everybody concerned about cancer, be it patients or academics, are keen on finding the latest news on the types of new therapy and information on treatments. Internet does have everything. However, it is always useful to corroborate this evidence of the latest from many sources before accepting a single research paper. Mind you, cancer research is an ongoing process.

The theory behind what is known as Cancer Insurance, is rather a simple thing.

The concept of cancer insurance is rather simple. It is when benefits, regardless of other insurances a person can have, are directly paid to the person, so that the person involved can use these benefits provided by the cancer insurance to help pay off the extra costs in their cancer treatment. In most cases; however, there need to be medical proof which verifies that a person in question is diagnosed with cancer, to get the cancer insurance.

Cancer has become the leading cause of the increasing death rates among people of all ages. The risk of being cancer patient increases with age, according to the statistics of American Cancer Society.

Treating cancer requires a large amount of financial support, as the medicines required, various radio, chemo therapies and surgeries are rather costly. Therefore, a large amount of financial support will be required when treating cancer; the overall expenditure when treating cancer in United States (year 2007) was estimated by the national institute of health- to be approximately 9.2 billion, of which, billion was medical costs.

Therefore, though a person might have a normal health insurance that could cover the expenses of day to day medical requirements and in case of accidents; it is doubtful whether those insurances can cover the high costs of cancer treatments. Hence, it is important for a cancer patient to consider cancer insurance.

However, other than one specific cancer insurance, there are various other ways in which cancer patients can insurance themselves, such as private health insurances and government-funded insurance plans (such as in the US- Medicare and Medicaid).

Also, for cancer patients there are other financial resources available through government programs, disability benefits, aid from voluntary organizations, and living benefits from life insurance policies.

There are certain points to consider before purchasing cancer insurance. It is important, at first, to find out about the coverage available under your present health care policy; in case you are diagnosed with cancer. If you are on Medicaid or some other government funded insurance plan, reconsider whether you actually need cancer insurance.

Once you are certain about purchasing cancer insurance, consider about the best cancer policy that meets your requirements at the most affordable price for you; however, make it a point to read and understand the cancer policies (specially the limitations) thoroughly.

Find out what is covered and not covered by the cancer policy; find out whether there is any coverage for other diseases that might occur due to the cancer or its treatment and whether the benefits provided by your other health insurance policies will be affected.

A wisely chosen cancer insurance that suits best to a cancer patient is the best possible way of ensuring financial support.

It is not uncommon to hear about many new, and different, types of diseases spreading in todays world. AIDS was unheard of until around 20 years ago, and now suddenly it is the biggest epidemic to hit humans in todays world. Similarly, another disease to become widespread recently is cancer. Although also a daunting disease to be affected with, researchers have been trying to find cures for many different kinds of cancers and have had many a great breakthrough. But to this day there are no specific reasons that can be named to cause cancer. Research has found many risk factors that increase a persons chance of getting cancer, but these are not exact causes for it either. It all seems to be left to chance.

What is cancer? All living cells in our body go through a cyclic process of being production, living and then finally dying. These dead cells are then removed from our body through various mechanisms that take place in our body. In some cases, forming new cells takes place out of the usual rhythm. This means that while there are already healthy, living cells more and more keep adding on. These cells take on irregular shapes and form a mass which have no function. This collection of cells is the tumor, which if turns out to be harmful, is termed to be a cancer. Cancers are named according which region of the body they appear. For example, if found in lungs it is called lung cancer, and if in the bone, then bone cancer. The mass formed could either remain in one place or spread through the lymphatic system to other parts of the body. This happens when the cancer cells break free from the mass and move to other parts of the body.
There are various types of treatments used to cure cancer. Removing a tumor by surgery usually means it can be fully taken out, but for those that cannot be operated on, alternate therapy methods like radiation and chemotherapy are used.

Having cancer can be a terrifying experience, but it does not mean the end of the road for anyone. Getting proper treatment, eating the right kinds of food, making small changes in your lifestyle, and most importantly, ALWAYS being positive are the best ways to make sure you enjoy life for many more years to come!
