Despite the large number of informative materials available for goals and objectives, many people do not know the difference between the two concepts. According to the Oxford Dictionary, goals are those dreams we hope to achieve, and, the perfect equivalent for the term goal is aim. Objectives, by the same dictionary, are defined to achieve. At first glance, there seems to be no clear-cut difference between the two notions. However, the two definitions cannot share the same meaning because one of them uses the verb hope whereas the other employs the verb try. The latter of the two verbs is a little more specific than the former, and basically this is what renders the difference between goals and objectives.
Other pretentious definitions of the concepts consider goals broader than objectives or in other words, goals are closer to intentions while objectives reflect superior precision. If we had to analyze goals and objectives from the perspective of the criteria referring to the understanding and conceptualization capacity, objectives are thus more tangible than goals. To illustrate these differences, we can think of goals and objectives from the point of view of teaching grammar according to school curricula. Thus, the goal of the lesson consists in the students learning how to use past tense simple. The specific objectives would be several, perhaps, such as: the students identifying regular or irregular verbs, adding ed or using the second irregular form of the verb depending on the case, complying with the word order rule for statements and questions, placing the auxiliary did before the subject in questions, adding the auxiliary did in negative statements, and so on.
As it may become obvious from this example, we can differentiate between goals and objectives in that goals are more general while objectives represent specific situations in the process of goal achieving. In other words, objectives are included in goals as specific steps to take. Furthermore, various measuring standards can only be applied to objectives but not to goals. You can give a test and check whether students rely on the newly acquired objectives; but the measuring of the goal is impossible under the circumstances, as it can only be deducted from the objectives appreciation and analysis. That is why courses of foreign languages require periodical testing which measures the achievement of objectives. However, official examination at the end of courses will test proficiency, and that will be measured in terms the broader goals.

Major achievements like goal reaching do not come easy for most people. Long before a dream turns into solid reality, it is given shape in thought and planning. To well organized people, visual cues will therefore make the best way to determine strategies and clarify ideas and points of interest. That is why goal setting worksheets have been created and presented to people.
The so-called goal setting worksheets are simple pieces of paper onto which we record work planned or done in order to achieve wishes. The most simple format used for such papers consists of a list with the goals, the steps necessary for the carrying out of the plan, the reasons that motivate the action and the final reward.
You should not imagine that creating one such piece of paper can be done in 5 minutes and be reliable. It usually takes a while for one to come up with an elaborated viable list of goals and step-by-step action steps for each of them. Becoming realistic and time-oriented is not an easy task; that is why it is advisable not to hurry when working with goal setting worksheets.
Every now and then, you need to re-check the plan and its outlines. There may be many upturns in your life that may make the list of goals you have previously settled on unrealistic or undesirable. As a result, reevaluation and reorganization or further prioritization should be analyzed and assumed if necessary.
Another clever way of making your goals visual and palpable besides the goal setting worksheets is using goal posters. It is a proven fact that visual cues to which one is permanently exposed are very successful motivating agents. A poster with plans and time frames that you stick on your office or studio wall will work out just fine.
Goal setting worksheets remain pretty ordinary and common compared to the more creative posters. The latter offer more space and more creativity that will surely imprint a better visualization of the plan and a better mood to yourself. Highlighting will also be more obvious as you have the chance to use more colors and organize the lay-out into a spacious format than a simple piece of paper would allow.
All in all, whether goal setting worksheets or goal posters, remember that a structural planning keeps thoughts in order and goals in perspective.
